IV Ordinary Period of Sessions of the General Conference

The IV Regular Session of the General Conference was held in Mexico City from April 15 to 18, 1975 and was chaired by Her Excellency Marielena Ortiz Morales de Terán, Ambassador of the Republic of Costa Rica.

The representative of Jamaica and the representative of Venezuela were elected as the two Vice-Presidents of that General Conference.

The IV Period of Session had the participation of the Member states, as well as seven (7) States linked to the Treaty: Brazil, Chile, the People's Republic of China, the United States of America, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Trinidad and Tobago. In addition, twenty were represented (20) Observer States: the Federal Republic of Germany, Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Spain, Finland, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Norway, New Zealand, Pakistan, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Yugoslavia; and two (2) international observer organizations: the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations (UN).

At the Conference several topics were discussed and several resolutions were adopted, including:

  • The Collection of Fees and Advances to the Operating Fund
  • The Accounting Statement of the Organization
  • The Control System
  • Possible relationship of OPANAL with other Denuclearized Zones
  • Commemoration of the Tenth Anniversary of the Treaty of Tlatelolco
