IX Regular Session of the General Conference

The IX Regular Session of the General Conference was held in Mexico City from May 7 to 9, 1985 and was chaired by His Excellency Mr. Victor Flores Olea, Representative of Mexico. The representative of Peru and the representative of Suriname were chosen as the two Vice-Presidents of the Conference.

 

The General Conference had the participation of representatives of eighteen (18) Member States: Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela. They also participated nine (9) Observer States Linked to the Treaty: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, the People's Republic of China, the United States of America, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. In addition, they were represented twenty-four (24) Observer States: Australia, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Canada, Republic Arab from Egypt, Spain, Philippines, Finland, Greece, People's Republic of Hungary, India, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Norway, Pakistan, Republic Popular of Poland, Republic German Democratic Republic, Federal Republic of Germany, Socialist Republic of Romania, Holy See, Sweden, Republic Vietnam Socialist; and three (3) international observer organizations: the United Nations Organization (UN), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the National Institute of Nuclear Energy (INEN).

 

At the Conference, several topics were discussed and several resolutions were approved, including:

  • Support for the New Delhi Declaration
