VI Ordinary Period of Sessions of the General Conference
The VI Regular Session of the General Conference was held in the City of Quito, Ecuador from April 24 to 27, 1979 and was chaired by Brigadier General Richelieu Levoyer, of Ecuador. The representative of Suriname and the representative of Guatemala were elected as the two Vice-Presidents of the Conference.
The General Conference had the participation of representatives of fifteen (15) Member States: Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela. They also participated nine (9) Observer States Linked to the Treaty: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, the People's Republic of China, the United States of America, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. In addition, they were represented twenty-four (24) Observer States: Federal Republic of Germany, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Korea, Czechoslovakia, Arab Republic of Egypt, Spain, Philippines, Finland, Greece, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Pakistan, Poland, Republic of China, German Democratic Republic, Federal Republic of Germany, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and Yugoslavia; and five (5) international observer organizations: the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Organization of American States (OAS), the United Nations (UN), the Inter-American Nuclear Energy Commission (CIEN) and the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE).
