XVII Regular Session of the General Conference
The XVII Regular Session of the General Conference was held in Panama City from November 29 to 30, 2001 and was chaired by His Excellency Mr. Dionisio de Gracia Guillén, representative of Panama. The representative of Argentina and the representative of Belize were elected as the two Vice-Presidents of the Conference.
The General Conference had the participation of representatives of veight (20) Member States: Argentina, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. They also participated six (6) Linked States: Cuba, China (People's Republic), United States of America, Russian Federation, France, Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In addition, they were represented thirteen (13) Observer States: Germany, Canada, Korea (Republic ofe), Egypt (Republic Arabic from), Spain, Finland, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, Switzerland, Thailand. Eight international organizations were also represented, several special guests from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Health of Panama, sixteen government institutions, and two non-governmental organizations.
At the Conference, several topics were discussed and several resolutions were approved, including:

- Use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes
- Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty
- Illicit circulation of nuclear materials
