XXI Regular Session of the General Conference
The XXI Regular Session of the General Conference was held in Mexico City on November 26, 2009 and was chaired by Lic. Salvador Beltrán del Río Madrid, representative of Mexico. The representative of Argentina and the representative of Guatemala were elected as the two Vice-Presidents of the Conference.
The General Conference had the participation of representatives of twenty two (22) Member States: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. They also participated four (4) Linked States: France, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Russian Federation and the Netherlands; and six (6) Observer States: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa and Türkiye.
At the Conference, several topics were discussed and several resolutions were approved, including:
- Second Conference of States Parties and Signatories to Treaties Establishing Nuclear Weapon-Free Zones and Mongolia
- Interpretative Declarations of the Nuclear Powers to Protocols I and II of the Treaty of Tlatelolco
- 2010 NPT Review Conference of the Parties
