XXII Regular Session of the General Conference
The XXII Regular Session of the General Conference was held in Mexico City on November 17, 2011 and was chaired by His Excellency Mr. Germán Guerrero Pavez, representative of Chile. The representative of Jamaica and the representative of Panama were elected as the two Vice-Presidents of the Conference.
The General Conference had the participation of representatives of twenty-one (21) Member States: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. They also participated five (5) Linked States: United States of America, France, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Netherlands and Russian Federation; and six (6) Member States of Other NWFZs and Observers: Angola, Australia, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Indonesia and South Africa. The United Nations and the Inter-American Institute of Educational Communication were also represented.
At the Conference, several topics were discussed and several resolutions were approved, including:
- Consolidation of the Nuclear Weapons Free Zone of Latin America and the Caribbean
- Coordination of the work of OPANAL in New York, Geneva, Vienna and the Caribbean
- Coordination and cooperation with other Nuclear Weapons Free Zones
