XXIII Extraordinary Session of the General Conference
Representatives of the States Parties to the Treaty of Tlatelolco met on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 to celebrate the XXIII Extraordinary Period of Sessions of the General Conference of OPANAL.
The General Conference of the Organization, made up of the 33 States of Latin America and the Caribbean, received the Annual Report of the Secretary General, which reflects the activities of OPANAL during 2014. In particular, the Secretary General alluded to the fact that the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) adopted in its 2014 Declaration, at the Summit in Havana, Cuba, that the Heads of State and Government of the Community reaffirmed "the importance of collaboration and cooperation between CELAC and "OPANAL, a specialized body of the region, to articulate common positions and work on nuclear disarmament."
On the other hand, the Conference considered the reports on the activities of the Committee on Contributions and Administrative and Budgetary Affairs (CCAAP), and the Working Groups on education for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, coordinated by Argentina, and for the analysis and review of the OPANAL Financial Regulations, coordinated by Mexico.
The XXIII Extraordinary Period of Sessions of the General Conference was held at the headquarters of the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of Mexico (SRE) and was chaired by Ambassador Juan Sandoval Mendiolea (Mexico), while the Vice-Presidency was served by Ambassador Javier Eduardo León Olavarría (Peru) and First Secretary Hervey Loiseau (Haiti).
