The Secretary General of OPANAL participated in the general debate of the 79th Session of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly. During his speech, he reaffirmed the importance of diplomacy, dialogue and cooperation to advance global disarmament and nuclear security. He also highlighted the historical significance of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, which established the first nuclear-weapon-free zone in a densely populated area in Latin America and the Caribbean, inspiring similar initiatives around the world.
