OPANAL Member States met with the Chair of the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, Maritza Chan-Valverde (Costa Rica), to receive an update from Secretary-General Flávio Roberto Bonzanini on the Secretariat's participation and the current status of the issues being reviewed by the Organization.
Also present was the former Secretary General of OPANAL (1994-2000), Enrique Román-Morey, current Permanent Representative of Peru to the UN in New York, and they remembered Ambassador Gioconda Ubeda (DEP) who was Secretary General of OPANAL between 2010 and 2013.
At this meeting, experiences and challenges regarding nuclear disarmament were shared, reaffirming the region's commitment to international peace and security.
The collaboration among these three leaders, along with the membership, strengthens our common goal of a world free of nuclear weapons.
