Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay to OPANAL headquarters

On Tuesday, March 8, 2016, H.E. Mr. Rodolfo Nin Novoa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, visited the OPANAL headquarters where he had a meeting with Ambassador Luiz Filipe de Macedo Soares, Secretary-General of OPANAL.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay reiterated his country's commitment to comply with the obligations of the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (Treaty of Tlatelolco). Moreoever, Minister Nin Novoa expressed his interest in attending the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, on 13 and 14 February 2017.

Uruguay signed the Treaty of Tlatelolco on February 14, 1967 and ratified it with a waiver on August 20, 1968. In this way, Uruguay became one of the founding Member States of the Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL).
